Speed Baccarat Card Values Explained
Speed Baccarat uses the same card value system as all standard baccarat variants. Once you understand how card values and hand totals work, the game becomes immediately accessible — even for first-time players.
Card Value Table
- Ace — 1 point
- 2 — 2 points
- 3 — 3 points
- 4 — 4 points
- 5 — 5 points
- 6 — 6 points
- 7 — 7 points
- 8 — 8 points
- 9 — 9 points
- 10 — 0 points
- Jack (J) — 0 points
- Queen (Q) — 0 points
- King (K) — 0 points
How Hand Totals Are Calculated
In Speed Baccarat, hands are always valued between 0 and 9 — never higher. To find the total of a hand, add the values of the cards, then drop the tens digit if the result is 10 or above.
Examples:
- King (0) + 7 = 7 → hand value: 7
- 6 + 9 = 15 → drop the 1 → hand value: 5
- 8 + 7 = 15 → drop the 1 → hand value: 5
- Ace (1) + 4 = 5 → hand value: 5
- Queen (0) + Queen (0) = 0 → hand value: 0 (called "baccarat")
- 10 (0) + 3 = 3 → hand value: 3
What Is a Natural in Speed Baccarat?
A Natural occurs when either the Player or Banker receives an initial two-card total of exactly 8 or 9. On a natural, the round ends immediately — no third card is drawn. Naturally, a Natural 9 beats a Natural 8. If both hands produce the same natural value, the result is a tie and tie bets pay 8:1.
Naturals are the baccarat equivalent of blackjack's 21 — the best possible starting outcome and an automatic win or draw.
Why Face Cards Are Worth Zero
Baccarat's origins trace to Italian gambling games where tens and face cards were worthless (worth "nothing," or "zero"). This tradition was preserved in punto banco and all its descendants, including Speed Baccarat. It means that holding a King or a Queen in your hand provides no advantage — unlike in many other card games — keeping baccarat's valuation system straightforward and easy to learn.
The Suit Does Not Matter
In standard Speed Baccarat play, the suit of a card (Spades, Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds) has no effect on the hand value. Suits only become relevant in the Perfect Pair side bet, where two cards must match in both rank and suit to qualify for the 25:1 payout.
