Speed Baccarat Rules

Speed Baccarat follows all the rules of traditional baccarat — just compressed into lightning-fast rounds of just 27 seconds. The goal remains unchanged: predict whether the Player or Banker hand will finish closest to a value of 9. You can also bet on a Tie if you believe both hands will finish equal.

Card Values in Speed Baccarat

Understanding card values is the very first step to mastering Speed Baccarat rules. The system is straightforward:

  • Aces — worth 1 point
  • 2 through 9 — worth their face value (pip value)
  • 10, Jack, Queen, King — worth 0 points

Crucially, there are no double-digit hand values in baccarat. If a hand's total exceeds 9, the tens digit is dropped. For example, a 6 and a 9 total 15 — but the hand is valued at 5. A hand of 8 and 7 totals 15, so the hand value is 5.

How a Round of Speed Baccarat Works

Speed Baccarat is played with eight standard 52-card decks. Each round begins with a short betting window — typically just 10 to 12 seconds — in which you must place your wager on Player, Banker, Tie, or any side bets you choose. Once betting closes, the dealer draws two cards each to the Player position and the Banker position. Cards are dealt face-up, so the total of each hand is announced immediately.

If either the Player or Banker receives an initial total of 8 or 9, this is called a Natural. On a natural, no further cards are drawn and the round ends — the highest natural wins. If both hands produce the same natural, the result is a tie.

The Third Card Rule

When neither hand produces a natural, the third card rule determines whether additional cards are drawn:

  • The Player draws a third card if their two-card total is 0–5. The Player stands on 6 or 7.
  • The Banker's drawing rules depend on the Banker's two-card total and — if the Player drew — the value of the Player's third card. For example: the Banker draws on a total of 0–2 regardless; on 3, the Banker draws unless the Player's third card was an 8; on 4, the Banker draws if the Player's third card was 2–7; and so on through a detailed tableau.

In live Speed Baccarat, all drawing decisions are handled automatically by the dealer following this fixed tableau, so you never need to memorize them to play.

Payouts

Standard Speed Baccarat payouts are:

  • Player win — pays 1:1 (even money)
  • Banker win — pays 1:0.95 (a 5% commission deducted from winnings)
  • Tie — pays 8:1

The 5% commission on Banker bets reflects the slight statistical advantage the Banker position holds. Because of this edge, betting on the Banker is generally considered the optimal long-term strategy in Speed Baccarat.

The 27-Second Round

What truly distinguishes Speed Baccarat from standard baccarat is pace. A typical Speed Baccarat round completes in around 27 seconds, compared to roughly 48 seconds for standard live baccarat. This is achieved by shortening the pre-deal betting window, dealing cards face-up immediately, and removing idle time between rounds. The result is a game that delivers more rounds per hour without changing a single rule of baccarat itself.
